The Bible is God's Word to us. Human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit wrote it. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because God inspires it, it is the truth without any mixture of error.
1. Miracles which declare His Divinity.
(1) His design of a miracle was open and graceful, not in the name of another, but in His own. “I say unto thee, Arise,” this distinguishes Him from prophets and apostles.
(2) The miracles of healing He did were with His authority and just the same as God to forgive sins.
(3) When He drove the buyers and sellers out of the Temple, He claimed as His own that Temple in which He often appeared as a common worshipper.
(4) And when He cast out devils, they sometimes confessed Him as the Son of God.
2. The Lord appeared among men in the lowest of condition,
yet He gathered a people who were to receive Him as, “the Son of God.” There were “signs” which manifested His “glory.” Under His ministry bread multiplies, and thousands are fed; He walks upon the sea, In the storm His simple command is, “Peace, be still!” and the winds hear, and die away. And then He says, “Lazarus, come forth!” And when finally He, the Conqueror of death in His own dominion, appears, Thomas naturally says, “My Lord and my God!”
The record of our Lord's life is fragmented and it's details incomplete. He is presented as the means of the things we need to know for our salvation – In other words He is the only way to the Father and that is enough for anyone to know. Miracles come with and follow the Christ – they display His glory.
If our prayers are not answered, and the salvation we wait for is not shaped in us, it is not because God is tied of hearing prayer, but because we are tied of praying. This is sin in its true colours, and this is sin in its consequences, exceedingly hurtful, separating us from God, and separating us from all good, and only giving us evil.
We do not have to feed our own destruction through wicked systems. No schemes of self shaped salvation can save us. Put on the Redeemer's robe of righteousness. Every man who is destitute of the Spirit of Christ, runs swiftly to evil of some sort; let us remember this; those who do not know the Divine truth and justice, are strangers to peace.
God has given us His word to help us in the right time – but because of our sinful nature we need to always be on guard from evil men and sometimes even ourselves. Let us not be lazy and make sure we talk to our God and saviour.
If we shut our eyes against the light of Divine truth, it is just with God to hide from our eyes the things that belong to our peace. The sins of those who profess themselves God's people, are worse than the sins of others. And the sins of a nation bring public judgements, when not restrained by public justice. Men may murmur under calamities, but nothing will truly profit while they reject Christ and his gospel.
The Bible teaches us that this is the day of salvation and salvation is our greatest need.
